The Granada Festival and the “Reina Sofía” Professional Dance Conservatory celebrate International Dance Day with a performance of Jovenes en Danza
29 april
In 1982, on the initiative of the International Dance Committee, UNESCO proclaimed 29 April as International Dance Day. This date was chosen to mark the birth of the dancer and choreographer Jean-Georges Noverre. A manifesto is written every year, with Crystal Pite being the one commissioned on this occasion. The goal of International Dance Day is to pay tribute to dance as a universal and diverse art form, bringing together all those who have chosen this form of expression, free from cultural, political, and ethical barriers And for this reason, once again, the Festival de Granada, in collaboration of the Reina Sofía Professional Conservatory of Granada and the “la Caixa” Foundation, is putting on a mixed performance to bring dance closer to the people of Granada on such a special day. The appointment is at the Lorca Center, at 12pm.
On this occasion, several pieces are being presented covering all the styles of dance taught at the conservatory: classical ballet, Spanish dance, flamenco, and contemporary dance. The aim is to showcase a variety of
choreographies resulting from some of the most significant and important activities held at the centre. Among these pieces are the winning choreographies of the Provincial Choreographic Competition that show not only the high level of interpretation, but also the creativity of our students. Works created for the Jovenes en Danza Workshops in this case by the choreographers Miguel Ángel Berna, Andrés Peña and Daniel Doña are also included. This celebration has been co-produced with the FEX for 18 years, with the support of the ”la Caixa” Foundation.
