The Council of Andalusian Municipalities has met today in Granada to approve a resolution for the FAMP to sign the 2031 European Capital of Culture Granada Declaration of Support. This agreement officially commits the Federation to promoting the cultural bid among all local governments across Andalusia.

The resolution, adopted during the meeting held at Granada City Council, will enable agreements and motions of support to be put before the Andalusian local authorities, with the aim of extending backing for the 2031 Granada bid throughout the entire Andalusian territory. The initiative could reach Andalusia’s 770 municipalities, eight provincial councils, 80 associations of municipalities, and 35 autonomous local entities, thereby reinforcing the project’s territorial and participatory dimension.

In this way, support for the 2031 Granada bid will be able to reach the entire Andalusian territory through the institutions that represent and manage the autonomous community’s local reality.

The agreement is based on the recognition of culture’s importance as an element of cohesion, social development, innovation, and economic growth, as well as the historical commitment of Andalusian local governments to defending and enhancing cultural heritage.

The initiative also aligns with the FAMP’s mission to promote culture, socioeconomic development, and the distinct values of Andalusia. These objectives find a prime opportunity within the 2031 European Capital of Culture Granada bid to project the cultural, heritage, and creative potential of the entire autonomous community before Europe. In this context, the FAMP has agreed to sign the 2031 Granada Institutional Declaration of Support and to promote the extension of this backing to all local entities across Andalusia.
