Granada begins renovation of cultural exhibition and innovation centre dedicated to water management research
9 July 2025
On Wednesday 9 July, the Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, visited the construction site of the new “Biometropoli” cultural centre, which is set to open in the municipal building located on Calle San Matías in Granada. This strategic corner of the city’s historic district is establishing itself as a cultural hub thanks to its proximity to the Unicaja Foundation’s upcoming “Rey Soler” Cultural Centre. Both facilities, located on the same street, are a clear example of how culture can act as a driver of urban transformation, neighbourhood renewal, and social and economic regeneration.
The “Biometropoli” centre is rooted in Granada’s water heritage, transforming it into a driver of innovation by connecting heritage, people, and sustainability, employing contemporary approaches in the process. Marifrán Carazo emphasised that “the project showcases our history and propels it into the future, demonstrating that water has not only defined our culture, but can also drive environmental solutions that have a real impact on our city”.
