The 9th Granada Guitar Festival commemorates the centenary of the birth of guitarist Manuel Cano with over 30 concerts at historic venues
3 July 2025
On 3 July 2025, Granada City Council officially announced the celebration of the 9th Granada Guitar Festival. This year, the festival will take on special significance as it is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Manuel Cano Tamayo, a distinguished flamenco guitarist from Granada and the first university professor (catedrático) of flamenco guitar in history.
During the presentation, the local government spokesperson, Jorge Saavedra, emphasised that this festival is much more than a musical event: it is a statement of identity and a commitment to embracing culture as a force for change. Granada is determined to make music the driving force behind its ECOC 2031 bid, and the festival is one of the city’s flagship events.
With more than 30 concerts scheduled to take place between 14 July and 7 August, the 9th Guitar Festival will bring together national and international artists in a programme that combines classical, flamenco and baroque guitar, as well as world premieres and parallel activities. A total of 11 concerts will be free of charge and will be held not only in the city of Granada, but also in municipalities in the province of Granada, including Guadix, Huéneja and Capileira.
