The Ibero-American Union of Municipalities (UIM) has endorsed Granada’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031. Based in Granada, this international organisation has promoted cooperation and institutional strengthening among local governments in Ibero-America for more than three decades.
The Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, highlighted the importance of the endorsement, pointing out that the UIM is an internationally renowned leader in the municipal sphere. Based in Granada’s emblematic “Carmen de los Mártires” palace and gardens and boasting a network of more than 7,000 municipal representatives, academics, and public management experts, the UIM has established itself as a leading organisation in training, research and cooperation among local governments.
The UIM conducts its activities with a view to contributing to the enrichment of local spaces in Ibero-America.
