Granada reaffirms its cultural and technological leadership at MONDIACULT 2025
29 september 2025
This week, Granada played a leading role in two key events within the official programme of MONDIACULT 2025 — the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development. The conference is currently taking place in Barcelona and involves the participation of all 194 UNESCO Member States. Granada’s active participation in this international event consolidates its status as a city that champions culture as a driver of development, based on technological innovation and collective intelligence.
On Wednesday 24 September, Granada City Council hosted the round table discussion “Towards MONDIACULT 2025: Artificial Intelligence and Culture”, which was included among the conference’s official side events. The meeting addressed the role of artificial intelligence in urban environments and its impact on the cultural domain, with special attention given to cutting-edge initiatives being developed in Granada.
Granada was also represented at MONDIACULT 2025 in Barcelona through the event “The Value of Language / The Value of Culture” (El valor de la lengua / El valor de la cultura), which brought together leading figures from the cultural sphere. The meeting featured a panel of experts including Luis García Montero, Director of the Cervantes Institute, and David Jiménez Blanco, Chairman of the Madrid Stock Exchange. Both individuals are members of the committee responsible for Granada’s ECOC candidacy. The Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, introduced the speakers and highlighted the central role played by Granada — a UNESCO City of Literature for over a decade — in fostering interchange between culture, literature and internationalisation.
