Encounters with Friends of the Festival
20 abril
The Granada Festival and the Amigos del Festival association present a series of talks under the title “Encounters with Friends of the Festival”. The initiative is designed as a public outreach space to discover the 75th Granada Festival program in an enjoyable and participatory way. Guided by experts in music, cinema, and the performing arts, the series will also feature several artists who are performing in this year’s program.
From April 20 to June 8, the Official College of Architects of Granada will host four Encounters that will address different aspects and points of view of music, dance and opera present in this year’s program. The cycle begins with the historian and retired professor of the University of Granada Manuel Titos, whose intervention is titled The Festival of Granada: memory of a spectator. On Monday, May 11, it will be the turn of Ricardo Molina, professor, engineer and humanist who will focus his talk on the opera featured in the closing concert of the 75th edition: Aida, The Beautiful Revenge of the Primal and Concise Verdi.
On Monday, May 25, the Principal Conductor of the City of Granada Orchestra, Lucas Macías, accompanied by Álvaro Flores Coleto (Project Director of the Manuel de Falla Archive) and Paolo Pinamonti (Director of the Granada Festival), will delve into “La vida breve: A Long History on the 150th Anniversary of Manuel de Falla,” in connection with the program to be performed by the OCG on Friday, July 10. At this concert, the audience at the Palace of Charles V will witness the world premiere of the first version of La vida breve (1904-1905), the score of which has been recovered and edited for the occasion by the Manuel de Falla Archive.
The dance also has its place in the Encounters: on Monday, June 8, dancer and choreographer Antonio Najarro will be the protagonist of this talk. With the participation of Rosa Suárez (cultural manager and researcher specializing in Spanish dance and educational mediation in the arts), attendees of the meeting will be able to share the artist‘s unique “perspective on Spanish Dance” . And within the Festival program itself, on Saturday, July 11, the Generalife Theater will be the stage for the performance: Juerga, Triana, and Sonatina, a reconstruction of historic productions by Antonia Mercé «La Argentina» originally presented in 1920s Paris.
The appointment is at 7 pm, at the Official College of Architects of Granada, in Plaza de San Agustín, 3. Access is free until capacity is reached.
