Granada’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2031 has taken another giant step forward thanks to the unanimous support of the 174 municipalities in the province of Granada. These towns and villages have endorsed a project that has transcended the city limits to become a truly collective undertaking for the entire region.

The Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, emphasised that: “Granada 2031 is not just a project for the city; it is a project for the entire province. The support of all 174 municipalities shows us that the whole province of Granada is united in the pursuit of this goal. We wish to place Granada at the cultural heart of Europe, and we will do so together, with the support of our people and our roots.”

The backing of all the province’s municipalities serves as a reminder that present-day Granada is the culmination of centuries of shared history, coexistence between diverse peoples, and cultural fusion that has left an everlasting legacy.
